Did you know...
...that apparently the LJ "Did you know" feature may be related to the navigation bar suddenly showing up for so many people?

A while back, I cleaned up my list at http://www.livejournal.com/didyouknow/ , thinking I was just decluttering the screen. As it turned out, I didn't experience my navbar reappearring earlier this week.

I've heard rumors that http://www.livejournal.com/didyouknow/ isn't just a new features advertisement, but may actually have further control over how your LJ looks.

So go to http://www.livejournal.com/didyouknow/ and de-select anything you're not interested in.

Just a tip, fyi...

Having the navigation bar show up again after I'd turned it off annoyed me, so I sent a message to LJ. I was pleased to receive a prompt and courteous reply:

Dear felis_sidus,
Thank you for your feedback, and I'm sorry you were inconvenienced this morning.

When we first offered the navigation strip, we made a mistake in recording user preferences, and this mistake caused us to not be able to distinguish between two groups of users: those who had tried out the navigation strip and decided they didn't like it, versus those who had never tried it at all. Since we wanted the impact of this change to be as minimal as possible for our users who had already seen this feature, we chose to not enable it for the users who have dismissed the "Did you know" box regarding the navigation strip, as this was the only data we had stored regarding this feature. I apologize that this was not enough to keep your account from being affected, particularly since you did not want this change.

It's definitely not our intention to force people to use the navigation strip. While we have heard some negative feedback regarding the navigation strip, we've also received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback; because of this, we chosen to enable it for all users. This was announced in a new community designed to inform users of upcoming changes to the site, [http://community.livejournal.com/lj_releases/], and I welcome you to add that community to your Friends list.

If you have any other questions or concerns about this, please feel free to let me know.

Regards,

Carrie Stevens
